Ellis’ First Birthday Party
~ a bee themed first birthday party ~

We celebrated Ellis’ First Bee-Day Party this past July. As you probably guessed it was Bee Themed. I have to admit, I had lots of yellow and green leftover from Owen’s first birthday party, so I kinda started there and end up on a bee theme using the yellow and adding in black and gray. I love the way it turned out.
The chalkboard banner below is from Target, and it really does work. We used it for Owen’s Construction themed 3rd birthday party the month before and erased it and re-worded it for Ellis’ party- worked like a charm. (I’ll try to get that one blogged next). My good friend Emily Brannon make the cupcakes and beehive smash cake. I love what she did with the cupcakes and the smash cake turned out SO adorable! The cute little bee stickers came from Hobby Lobby and made the smash cake topper with them and some white covered wire (no idea the technical term) from the baking section. For the cupcake toppers I used the same bee stickers and Washi Tape from Hobby Lobby. They were easy to make, but I’ll admit time consuming.
In the kids goodie boxes were silly straws, bubbles, gum balls and bee crayons from Etsy. I didn’t do such a good job labeling the things in the kids boxes and had parents asking later what the little bees were – (mental note – always label the weird things). For the parents, I found beeswax candles that I just loved. I’m glad a lot came in the box, because it means I have a few for myself.
We had wood letters for the kids to paint and a hammering station (it was such a hit at Owen’s party we brought it back out for round 2), and all of the usual backyard fun for the kids – swing, sand box (ours is filled with pea gravel) and giant chalkboard.
We put the paper fan backdrop together by covering peg board from Home Depot with brown paper and tying the fans on and knotting them behind the back of the board – I was pretty proud of myself when I figured that one out. I’m pretty sure Adam thinks I’m crazy, but he always comes through and turns my crazy into something cool.
a BIG belated THANK YOU to everyone that came out this summer – I know it was hot, but we had a great time having everyone over enjoying the outdoors.
